MICROBIOLOGY GROUP LEAD - BIOPHARMA - CORK
EMPLOYER

with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device sectors.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of this role is to lead and manage an off-site
team of analytical staff to ensure that customer requirements, quality
requirements, and organisational goals are met.
Staff must be led, motivated and developed so that they are able to
react effectively to the business needs.
This person will be the key point of contact for both the Team and
also the client on a day-to-day basis.
There will be a high emphasis on agreed client requirements, ensuring
that client expectations are met or exceeded through effective
leadership and quality operational management.
Effectively coordinating and managing the team so that productivity,
quality, documentation, work schedules, safety and housekeeping are
run at maximum efficiency.
Ensure that the client gets the best possible service by continually
reviewing best practice in relation to both commercial and quality
issues and ensuring *% ethical work standards
and GMP compliance.
Responsible for the development, coaching, motivation, and morale of
team members through effective teambuilding and use of reward and
recognitions systems celebrating team success.
Communicate regularly with the client and Management to ensure
information is shared effectively and actions are taken immediately.
Responsible for quality risk assessment of various technical
processes, including sampling plans; preparation of validation
protocols and subsequent procedures for final approval by client
personnel.
Reviewing and approving all relevant documentation and technical data
in a timely manner and ensuring that it communicated, documented, and
filed accurately.
Reviewing and improving commercial work practices. Responsible for
identifying areas where efficiencies may be improved and liaising with
the client appropriately about any proposed improvements.
Forward planning of activities in order to maximise the use of client
resources during training periods.
Ensure that work is scheduled and cross training takes place so that
the service levels agreed with the customer are achieved.
Amend schedules as required.
Carry out analysis if required by shortage of personnel or other
circumstances
Ensure that all analysts are trained and have completed training
records for all tests and other training completed.
Carry out performance appraisals with staff as part of the overall
performance management programme within the organisation.
Continuous feedback to all members of their team on all items in
relation to client or organisational requirements / changes.
Handle any customer related queries where necessary and liaising with
their team and with personnel from other teams to problem solve these
queries if needed.
Overall responsibility for the cleanliness and tidiness of the team
work environment, and the safety of the team on the client site.
Ensure equipment is properly maintained and in the event of a
breakdown that it is repaired in accordance with client procedures
(with reference to timeliness, quality and cost.)
REQUIREMENTS
A degree in Microbiology or a related discipline is required.
At least 5 years’ relevant experience of microbiology laboratory.
Excellent leadership skills and at least 2 years previous supervisory
experience.
Previous responsibility for approving valid analytical measurements.
Good understanding of chemistry is advantageous.
Thorough understanding of requirements for working in a GMP
environment.
Ability to quickly learn new processes.
Ability to communicate clearly and to form strong working
relationships with colleagues.
Ability to work on own initiative and be capable of developing
solutions to problems as part of a team.
Willing to operate in a flexible manner and be able to switch
priorities at short notice.
Good team player, organised, accurate, have strong documentation
skills.

Good communication skills both internally and externally.
